Saturday, August 24th- All day. Volunteers are need to assist our mycologist Christin Swearingen in her efforts to create a display of local mushrooms with collection labels. Volunteers can help in the field, as well in the "studio" for 2 or more hours. The team will be sorting mushroom shape (gilled, boletes, polypores, toothed fungi, clubs & corals, puffballs, cup fungi, other) to speed up identification and labeling of mushrooms. We collect moss to line the display trays.
Alaska Mushroom Lecture

Friday- Lichen Walk
August 23rd, Friday, 2-4 pm
Join Celia as she explores the rocky tundra of Murphy Dome, searching for lichen, and talking about the habitat, growth form, and life history of lichen.
Suggested donation: $10 to support the Fairbanks Fungi Festival.

Saturday- Lichen Walk
August 24th, Saturday 12- 2 pm
This Murphy Dome walk is for people who want to get a little deeper into lichen taxonomy. Ceila will discuss lichen terminology and take more time to identify lichen to species. She will review characteristics unique to different groups of lichen and provide hand lens. Suggested donation: $10 to support the Fairbanks Fungi Festival. Registration is required and is free. Two Mushroom Forays Saturday Aug 24th
Mycologist Gary Laursen will be leading two 3-hour mushroom foray this Saturday as a fund raiser for the Fairbanks Fungi Festival. A donation of $10 is suggested. Cash is best as Dr Laren does not do venmo. RSVP and let us know which foray you plan to attendl
Saturday morning foray: 9 am --noon at UAF ski trail, meeting at the ski hut;
Saturday afternoon foray: 1-4 pm at Birch Hill ski trails meeting in parking lot.
Rain or Shine, Dr. Laursen will be there
Most of the fungi collected will used for the fungi festival education tables

Saturday- Work Party for Mushroom Collection
Volunteers can help in the field, as well at the display table. Join Christin Swearingen to collect mushroom and lichen, sort collected mushrooms by shape (gilled, boletes, polypores, toothed fungi, clubs & corals, puffballs, cup fungi, other) and line display trays with moss. Expert will identify muschroom species and volunteers will help duplicate labels. Our goal is to have displays ready before the festival begins, freeing our experts to answer questions at the festival.
